Recorded at Svartifloss in Iceland. Altmann’s partner, Andreas Uthoff builds the installations which are purposefully made from recycled materials. Using old monitors discarded by tv stations, Altmann infuses them with timeless life by adding imagery that is in itself timeless like beaches and waterfalls. The videos are meant to be meditative. Their calming effect countermands the stresses of our ever evolving and demanding technological lives. AUDIO: none.

WALKING SEASONS

Description – TIME: 12:15 VIDEO: 2010 to Present Shot at historical Brother’s Rock in Bedford, MA. The camera is placed at the same spot throughout the years and seasons. The Concord River is seen in the background with the artist

and her dog in the foreground. Part of the intention is to be playful with showing the same view but at different times of day or year so that the viewer is constantly looking at the similarities and differences.

BLACK ICE

Shot on the Concord River, MA USA. The camera precariously travels over the
frozen river which turns to black ice. Faces emerge softly in the depth of the shifting surface. Like lost memories or ghosts trapped deep in the recesses of the ice and of the mind. AUDIO: Sound of Ice cracking.

We have so far three different sculptures. One has footage from Svartifloss in Iceland, another of sardines in Monterey Bay and the third is of Pilgrim Pond. Altmann’s partner Andreas
Uthoff builds these small sculptures from monitors originally used in cars for back up cameras etc. One can see the evolution of the original CRT sculptures to these smaller flat screen versions. TIME: endless loop AUDIO: none

PILGRIM POND MIRROR

Recorded on Cape Cod, Ma. The camera glimpses beneath the glittering surface to the magical world below. The light and reflections plays tricks on your perception. The kaleidoscopic screen magnifies this hallucinatory perception especially with it’s highly saturated colors and vivid imagery. AUDIO: Ambient Sound.

WALKING ON ICE

Shot on the Concord River, MA. I love to walk, as do so many people, and much of my current work aestheticizes this simple act. Walking is about
movement as well as the sights that go by. I like traveling at a pace slow enough for my thoughts to breathe so that walking becomes a means of traversing the landscape of my mind. AUDIO: Cracking river ice.
